Spring Equinox: Navigating the In-Between Season
Through many cultures we connect with the energy of the land by celebrating specific points throughout the year. As humans, this helps us feel grounded, remind us that everything has seasons, and brings us out of our human brains to remember that the laws of nature will always be stronger than the laws of humans.
Spring Equinox (also called Ostara by some...more on that later) is one of these annual markers. It is the point where light and dark are equal, and the tipping point when the hours of light begin to outweigh the hours of darkness.
Themes of balance, rebirth, and planting seeds (and not expecting them to bloom tomorrow) are often talked about during the Spring Equinox. But if we go back a little further to the OG traditions, this time is less about immediate action and more about observation and orientation.
Now, observation doesn't mean passive. It means giving yourself time to be present with the natural world around you.
Spirit Guides to Work With:
Goddess Ostara
Ostara (pronounced Oh-STAR-uh) is a goddess of fertility, often associated with Spring Equinox. Call on her to help move your energy from dark, heavy, or depressed to lighter and more positive.
She encourages you to surround yourself with color and things that represent growth, like flowers.
As within, so without. If you want a sunnier outlook on the world, she is a great guide to work with. She helps you see where you can bring more lightness into your perspective, call in more prosperity, birth new ideas, and nourish the seeds you’ve already planted.
We will be working with her specifically in our Spring Equinox Healing in Soul Squad on March 19th.
Goddess Freyja
Freyja (pronounced FRAY-yah) is a Norse goddess of the earth, fertility, celebration and passion. She is also thought by many to be the first shaman, and I personally call on her frequently for assistance with deep healing work. But for the Spring Equinox, call on Freyja to remember your boldness and strength, appreciate your attractiveness, and revel in pleasure. Ask her to show you where you can find more joy in the beauty of life, where you can take bold action, and what endeavors to go "all in" on.
If you would like a specific journey to work with her, I recommend the "Connecting with a God(dess) or Ascended Master" in the Soul Squad Library
JOURNAL PROMPTS:
If you are a journal lover, instead of asking, “What should I be doing?” Try asking:
-
What feels like it’s starting to come alive?
-
What no longer feels aligned after this past season?
-
Where do I need more support before I push forward?
SPRING EQUINOX NERVOUS SYSTEM SCAVENGER HUNT:
As I mentioned earlier, Spring Equinox themes include fertility, new life, balance, but through the form of observations, presence, and appreciation. As a way to incorporate all of these into one simple practice, go on a Nervous System Scavenger Hunt.
How it works:
Go on a walk outside. On this walk, you’ll be looking for specific sensory stimulation. Activating your senses, moving your body bilaterally, and connecting to the ground all help regulate your nervous system. So not only are we being present with nature, we are also being present with ourselves and giving ourselves a nervous system reset.
As you walk, notice something:
- Pink
- Round
- New
- That smells good
- Texturally soft
- Warm
And take extra care to notice any wind against your skin, and the warmth of the sun.
Additional Resources:
If you want a little more support with this, we’re doing a Spring Equinox Community Healing inside Soul Squad on March 19th. It’s a space to actually do this work and go a bit deeper with spirit guides and energy work, with the support of a healer and community.
And if your body is asking for something more personal right now, I have a New Client Special available for 1:1 sessions.
As always, tune in, stay grounded, and I'll see you for the next one!
